Big wood!

I have spent the last week cutting trees for this years inventory. Thought I would show you what great wood we have in this desert. This is probably the second or third best log I have come across in 20 years.I still haven't even cut the best figured stuff at the crotch. These pictures are for an article I am writing about cutting timber for woodturners. Way better than gold!

  1. Used to think that too, Mike, a beautiful tree was way better than gold -- until Gold shot up to $1368/oz and is now being spelled with a capital 'G' :>)

Now where did I put those old gold pans?

  2. Dainty little thing... I notice you are taking bowls which will have rather unbalanced grain (the slabs where you are indicating taking multiple bowls). Do you expect these to move more while drying or after finish-turning? I always try to balance the grain to avoid this. Have I been wasting my time?
    Thanks,
    Steve
